On The Washington Post, an article listed as "Sen. Ted Cruz’s solution to border wall impasse: Make El Chapo pay for it" caught my eye over the recent proposition from Sen. Ted Cruz to use Drug Lord El Chapo's seized billions and put it towards the fence boarding Mexico. This "out of the box" bill called El Chapo Act may be legit, but some people criticize that the money would not cover all of the construction cost of the wall. While Trump made the promise that Mexico would pay for the border this bill may just fix the situation without the U.S. getting more in debt. In the article, it states "The Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order (EL CHAPO) Act, first introduced by Cruz in April 2017 and reintroduced Tuesday, would divert billions in drug proceeds from cartel leaders to border security" and the government will announce a forfeiture money judgment meaning the law enforcement "can permanently take a person’s property if law enforcement suspects it is connected to a crime." This idea is definitely a new concept and unconventional to some with many pros and cons. I think this Act is interesting and will pay attention to see how it plays out in the media and national government.
